Do you cringe at the thought of meal planning? As an entrepreneur as well as a wife, mother, and farmer, I am constantly looking for ways that I can make food preparations easier myprep. This is what I made the other evening to demonstrate how easy it was. I started by taking inventory of the things I already owned. In the meantime, I decided to spend 5 minutes getting rid of old or unopened items from my pantry. This would make it easier to shop for new items the next time. This led me to find a bit of brown rice as well as some white rice. I remembered that I bought chicken breasts when they were on sale last time, so I stuck it in the freezer.
I also had fresh green bean from my garden, and I was hoping to have a few slices of bacon to season them. I pulled out an onion from the cupboard, as well as some seasonings from my cabinets, and started to prepare. Meal planning includes food preparation. So instead of cooking all night, I thought I’d just put the chicken in the cooker at night. That way I could start the green beans in the morning and prepare the rice. So I did it.
I cooked the chicken overnight in the crockpot with some additional seasonings. I removed the chicken from the crockpot in the morning and measured how much liquid I had. Then I added more rice and put the lid on the crockpot. While I cleaned the beans, I turned the heat down to low. I also chopped up a few slices of bacon, along with a small onion, to get it cooking. Once the bacon was crisp, I added the rinsed beans to the pot and some water to heat them up. Then I went into the shower.
